Broody hen

We have a broody....finally. Only she decided a couple of hours too late. After doing the usual early morning rounds, I came home and set the eggs in the incubator. By lunchtime the Speckled Sussex had settled herself firmly in the 'favourite' nest box and refused to budge, growling at anyone that ventured too close. Despite having two other, perfectly good boxes to lay in, the remaining hens chose to lay on the floor of the house as close to occupied box as they dare.
This evening the broody seemed even more determined than ever to protect her imaginary clutch. Tomorrow we will move her to the broody coop in the shed. If she is still determined to sit we will place a small clutch of eggs under her in a couple of days time.
