Australorp broody

Less than a week into sitting and the clutch of Exchequer Leghorn eggs are down from 12 to 11. I am so disappointed. When I went to freshen the food and water for the broody this morning I noticed an empty egg shell. For now I am giving her the benefit of doubt and am assuming she broke the egg and ate it in order to clean the nest. Anymore and she will be removed from her duties and the job will be given to the very persistent Indian Game. Either way it is unlikely I will use the Australorp for sitting again.

The Exchequer Leghorn chicks were to be the start of a new flock I was hoping to establish, I just hope this isn't indicative of the way it is going to go.
