Next years plan - Layers and broodies

Last but certainly not least my remaining birds will form the layers and potential broody flock.

Consisting of the 6 Barnevelder pullets, originally to be part of the 'table bird flock', 2 Speckled Sussex, 2 Marans and 2 Indian Game they will make a nice little group.

The Barnvelders are already showing promise as good layers, at 21 weeks all are in lay and are laying on an almost daily basis, their egg colour is good and given time the size should increase.

All the other birds are proven broodies and mothers and when not rearing chicks lay well.

The only decision left to make is whether to give into fashion and add a couple of blue egg layers to the flock and so adding colour to the egg box.
